KICKS-OFF DENVER DESIGN WEEK

To launch Denver Design Week, the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) announces the grand opening of YesPleaseMore Pop-Up Store. Powered by the Denver Theatre District, Create Denver and Denver Pavilions, YesPleaseMore helps kick-off Denver Design Week on Saturday, June 5th with a grand opening celebration from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The store, located on the second floor of the Denver Pavilions by Barnes & Noble, will be open through September 15. The pop-up store concept was originally introduced as part of Create Denver Week.
The opening night party includes a VJ Performance by Kid Stardust, music by DJ Idol, Fresh Fruit Drinks by Crema Coffee House and an installation by Like Minded Productions (www.likemindedproductions.net): Multimedia Wheat Paste focusing on the Denver Theatre District made from all local original photography.
Designed to support the local creative economy, YesPleaseMore is a temporary retail space that acts as a "mix and match" experience that combines events, shopping, co-working and performances to create a cultural mashup, including:
- Designed goods such as furniture, paper goods, clothing, jewelry, prints and art from more than 40 Denver-based creatives. Products are provided on consignment with 70% of its sales to directly benefiting local creatives.
- Co-working space for the public including workspace and free WiFi to encourage experimentation, collaboration, entrepreneurship, innovation and community while hosting
- Workshops and seminars on creative entrepreneurialism
- Two six-week long site specific exhibitions focusing on design thinking as a form of problem solving. Guest curators from the creative community will help with special exhibitions.
- Engagement parties that present new artworks in the form of dynamic social events and performances by Denver-based creatives and institutions.
- Jumpstart award program that allows creative entrepreneurs to submit their creative ideas online while the public votes to elect the winning entries. The winning ideas will then be given seed money, helping the recipient realize their vision.
"The Denver Theatre District is excited to help bring this multi-faceted retail experience to downtown Denver. We're featuring an exhibition about the importance of design - from costumes to sets to lighting - to the theatre craft, and showcasing the talented folks who are behind-the-scenes of Denver's theatre companies," said David Ehrlich, co-executive director of the Denver Theatre District.
YesPleaseMore Pop-Up Store hours are Monday to Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Sunday Noon - 6:00 p.m. and will be open from June 5 - September 15, 2010. For more info contact: hello@yespleasemore.com
